Haifa rowing club started out in 1935 by immigrants who fled from the Nazi regime in Germany and brought with them their rowing boats. The club is deeply rooted in some clubs in Berlin, mainly the Iwriah (read: E-vriya).
The first boat house was built on the southern bank of the Kishon River, not far from Haifa. It has been relocated twice since then, and for the past 40 years it stands at the Kishon harbour, close to the estuary of the Kishon to the Mediterranean Sea.
The club managed to stay open at all times since its establishment, including during WW2 and the War for Independence.
Currently, the club includes over 100 members- of all ages - from juniors to masters who are over 80 y/o. The club owns more then 30 Olympic boats of various types and several boats for coastal rowing.
The club is a non-profit organization. The club is managed by a seven person committee, all volunteers, which are elected annually by the general meeting of the club. Most of the club's budget is based on membership fees, grants from the Lottery, Haifa municipality and private donations. The budgets are used for the employment of professional coachers for the junior team, maintenance, new rowing equipment and participating in rowing competitions.
